DL650: Auxiliary Fuel Tank: Main
This is the main "product information" page, showing the tank, bungee hooks, valves, etc. Other pages are available: you may want to see installation photos and narration, or other pictures (mainly near-duplicates to pictures on the main and installation pages).
Ron Smith is fabricating Auxiliary fuel tanks for the V-Strom 650! Combined with the main tank (plus overflow tank, lines, etc), the total capacity is around 11.3 gallons- they are tested underneath the rally limit of 11.5 gallons. Ron is making more of these tanks- they fit with or without Givi racks, and may work with Happy Trails panniers- some people are checking on that right now.
This isn't as obvious as it sounds, but keep in mind not to overflow the main tank. Oops.
Tank with bungees and some stuff strapped down. Note the valve on the tank- it's at the bottom corner of the tank.
1/4 turn gas cap, rectangular overflow tank, plus vent hose are on the higher side. The vent hose runs under the package shelf, down the non-exhaust side of the DL650.
The Maxia E52 looks very nice on the back.
The E52 is large enough for the case to open fully.
I'm happy to have my new tank. I know, I look like a squid here. The tank is a ways back, but it could work as a backrest (especially with a small gel pad).
Here is the tank with an E36 case. It doesn't open all the way, but the plastic tabs could be ground off to allow it to open further.
You can see the clips on the bottom of the tank. The bolts are very large, making the connection to the brackets very strong.
Blurry picture, but you can see the bungee tabs here. They are on the front of each side, plus on the rear of the tank. None on the front, because I don't really want to hit them if I rapidly depart the motorcycle.
