Day33: Transit to Maggie's
225 miles, 10 hours.
I woke up to the sound of rain coming down outside our York Pennsylvania motel. Ugh. I slept in a couple hours, and finally Tamara and I got up and decided what to do for the day. The rain forecast showed a lot of rain in the York area and northwards, and less rain to the east. So, even though we didn't have anything to see, we decided to do a transit day east into New Jersey, then north to New York City.
Maggie said she was going to be out until 9pm, so we made our plans around that and the rain. We didn't leave until after noon, hoping the rain would subside (it didn't). We geared up and headed east. The rain finally stopped a few hours into the ride. Yay!
We rode north near NYC, in the crazy evening rush-hour traffic, and stopped at a large mall in New Jersey. It was only about 4:30pm, and we needed to wait before going to Maggie's. So we ate, wandered through the mall, and watched a movie (Dark Knight). It was okay- I was annoyed by the people that were in the theater with us (cell phones, dumb people, etc), and mildly disappointed in the movie; some parts of it were too unbelievable.
After the movie, we headed up to Maggie and Ryan's place, which is just north of New York City on a commuter rail line. It's always so good to see them- it's been several years- in fact, we hadn't been there since they moved into a home of their own.
The late evening was filled with chatter, some great Polish food by Maggie, and such.
